Tests and Quizzes
There will be approximately 3 unit tests per quarter. There will also be a semester and course final given. Assessments are simply an opportunity for a student to show me what they know. I spend a lot of time grading each test I give – to help the student focus on the learning. If a student is absent the day of the test they will need to take the test the first day back to school (meaning they will miss part of the first lesson of the next unit. If an absence is planned in advance, it is in the best interest of the student to take the test before they go!)
Reviewing for the test is a privilege given to those in attendance on review days. If a student misses all or part of a review, they will still be expected to test with the class the following class period.
A student is able to remediate one test per quarter and this must be done within a week of receiving their test back. They will take the exact test that they turned in the first time and correct any mistakes that they made. This will be taken under a regular testing environment -- meaning no phone, friends, or notes are allowed. I don't give much extra credit in my class -- simply the opportunity to fix their tests if they wish. All students who choose not to remediate a test throughout the quarter will receive an extra credit coupon applied to their test grade. It is expected that the student study and come prepared for the test. It is simply easier to be prepared the first time rather than try to remediate it afterwards. The finals may not be made up.
